Nikolaus Alard

Nikolaus Alard (born December 17, 1644 in Süderau , † October 3, 1699 in Hamburg ; also Nikolaus Alardus ) was a German Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg .

Life

Nikolaus Alard was born in Süderau near Glückstadt on December 17, 1644 as the son of pastor Wilhelm Alard the Younger (approx. 1604–1670) and his second wife Apollonia born. In 1686 he was appointed general superintendent of the county of Oldenburg , which was then under the Danish government, as well as chief pastor of the Lamberti Church in Oldenburg and consistorial councilor; he held the first-mentioned office until 1699. During his tenure, Alard published the Oldenburg Catechism Doctrine in 1689 , which was in use in Oldenburg schools until 1790. In 1690 he also published the handbook for the preachers in the county of Oldenburg , which was included in the 2. Oldenburg Church Regulations in 1725. Alard died on October 3, 1699 in Hamburg. Alard's successor in office was Bonaventure Krahe .

family

Alard was married to Elisabeth Mohrmann (d. 1657; † 1742) from June 27, 1675, the marriage had two sons, including Nicolaus Alardus , and a daughter. Matthias Andreas Alardus , was his grandson.
