Christian Valdemar Henri John, Prince of Denmark , Count of Monpezat (born October 15, 2005 in Copenhagen ) is the eldest son of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and his wife Mary . The prince takes second place in the Danish line of succession.

Life

Prince Christian was baptized Christian Valdemar Henri John on January 21, 2006 in the chapel of Christiansborg Palace . According to tradition, the name of the prince was not announced until he was baptized. The prince was named after his grandfathers, Prince Henrik of Denmark and John Donaldson. Christian is a classic name in the Danish royal family and every second Danish king since 1448 has been called that. His godparents are: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden , Crown Prince Haakon of Norway , Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway , his paternal uncle Prince Joachim of Denmark , Crown Prince Paul of Greece , his maternal aunt Jane Stephens, Hamish Campbell and Jeppe Handwerk.

The prince grows up in Copenhagen with his siblings, the princesses Isabella and Josephine and Prince Vincent.

From 2007 the prince attended a public kindergarten, Dronning Louises Børnehus, near Fredensborg Palace , where he initially lived with his parents. In autumn 2010 the family moved to the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, and so Prince Christian and his sister Isabella moved to the Sogns Menigheds Børnehave garrison in early 2011.

Since August 2011, the prince has been attending a public primary school, Tranegårdsskolen in the fine suburb of Hellerup .

Public duties

The prince occasionally performs his first public duties with his parents or grandparents. He unveiled a portrait of Duke Ulrich of Denmark at Rosenborg Castle and a portrait of his grandmother, his father and himself. In June 2010 he was a page at the wedding of his godmother, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling.

Prince Christian is currently number two in the Danish line of succession. As a descendant of Queen Victoria , he is also listed as the heir to the British throne.
