Christiane Abenthung (born April 28, 1973 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski racer . Her greatest success was winning the slalom classification in the European Cup in the 1993/94 season .

Career

Abenthung was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association in 1989 at the age of 16 . In 1991 she became Austrian junior champion in slalom and super-G. At the Junior World Championships in 1991 , she came in the super-G, in slalom and in the combined rankings in the top ten. After that, her still young career suffered a serious setback when she suffered ligament tears in her left knee in a fall during Super-G training in Leogang and after several operations she was unable to contest races for almost two years.

After the injury, Abenthung only started in the technical disciplines and was particularly successful in the slalom. In her comeback season 1993/94 she won the slalom ranking in the European Cup with a victory in the slalom in Gstaad , a second place in Abetone and a third place in Zwiesel . On December 19, 1993 she came to her first World Cup appearance in St. Anton and at the end of the season she won World Cup points for the first and only time with ninth place in the Vail slalom .

After the winter, Abenthung had to undergo another operation and did not achieve the previous year's performance during the 1994/95 season. In the European Cup, a 15th place in the slalom in Zakopane was her best result, which is why she was released from the ÖSV squad after the winter and then ended her sporting career.
