Christine Rossi (born May 1, 1963 ) is a former French freestyle skier . It was largely specialized in the no longer performed discipline ballet (acro) . In addition, she won three disciplines in the World Cup and 21 individual competitions.

biography

Christine Rossi started the newly launched Freestyle Skiing World Cup at the age of 16 . In ballet she was immediately one of the best, but in the discipline evaluation during the first five winters she had to admit defeat to the serial winner Jan Bucher every time . In addition, she occasionally competed in the disciplines aerials (jumping) and moguls ( moguls ). While she achieved a fifth place as the best performance in jumping ( Livigno 1981), on the moguls she never made it into the top ten necessary to gain points. In the combination she succeeded three times, with once as fourth ( Laax 1981) just barely missed the podium. She achieved her first World Cup victory in January 1981 at the age of 17 in her favorite discipline in Laax.

From 1982/83 Rossi concentrated entirely on ballet and was able to challenge her long-term rival Jan Bucher for the first time in the discipline ranking in 1984/85. At the first Freestyle World Championships in Tignes , she had to give up again to the American and won the silver medal. In the winter of 1986/87 Rossi prevailed wafer-thinly against the equal-point Bucher in the ballet ranking because she had the better placements overall. In addition, she won the European title in ski ballet for the seventh and last time in her home town of Le Sauze. Rossi had her strongest season in 1987/88. With five World Cup victories, she beat Jan Bucher in the discipline classification for the third time in the last four years. In addition, she won the gold medal in ballet at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary , where the discipline was held for the first time as a demonstration competition. Following the successful winter, she ended her active career in competitive sports at the age of 24.

Today Christine Rossi runs a sports shop in Le Sauze.
