Jelena Alexejewna Batalova ( Russian Еле́на Алексе́евна Бата́лова ; at the FIS after an English transcription Elena Batalova ; born August 27, 1964 in Moscow ) is a former Russian freestyle skier . She specialized in the no longer performed discipline ballet (acro) . In 1995 she became world champion in this discipline. In addition, she won the discipline rankings in the World Cup four times as well as 25 individual competitions.

biography

Jelena Batalowa made her debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in December 1989 at the age of 25. In her third competition, she approached the podium for the first time in fourth. At her first two world championships in Lake Placid and Zauchensee she finished seventh and sixth. In a demonstration event at the 1992 Olympic Games of Albertville was ninth. After being consistently among the top ten for almost four years, she achieved her first World Cup victory in December 1993 in Piancavallo .

At the 1995 World Championships in La Clusaz , she beat the big favorite and reigning title holder Ellen Breen and surprisingly won the gold medal. After Breen's resignation in the same year, Batalowa took over their dominant position in the World Cup and won the discipline ranking four times in a row. In two other World Cup participations, however, she could not do justice to her role as a favorite and had to be content with ranks 16 and eight. The last two world titles were won by her teammates Oxana Kushchenko and Natalija Rasumowskaja . Batalowa celebrated a total of 25 World Cup victories in 52 competitions, a quota that is only exceeded by the American Jan Bucher in the ballet discipline . On March 4, 2000, at the age of 35, the Russian won the very last Ballet World Cup in Ovindoli .

After her active career, Jelena Batalowa worked as an acrobatic trainer for the Russian national freestyle team.
