Christof Knoche

Christof Knoche (* 1967 in Bremen ) is a German improvisation and jazz musician ( alto saxophone , soprano saxophone , bass clarinet , harmonica , electronics) and composer .

Live and act

After high school and community service, Knoche studied jazz saxophone at the Hanover University of Music and Theater (graduated in 1994) and from 1997 at the Manhattan School of Music . He toured Scandinavia as a member of the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra ; In 1996 and 1998 he appeared in the band Global Groove World (GGW) at European world music festivals. He worked with world music artists such as Huun Huur Tur , Nahawa Doumbia and Abdu Daghir , in the downtown scene of New York a. a. with Lee Konitz , Steve Lacy , Kirk Knuffke / Butch Morris , also in the electro-acoustic improvisation ensembles HKM + and Diatribes .

On OmniTone Records he released his 1999 debut album Line Zero with his own compositions, in which Russ Johnson (trumpet), Bob Bowen (bass) and Dan Weiss (drums) took part. In 2011 he appeared in the Puerto Rican Songbook Ensemble of Miguel Zenón at the Newport Jazz Festival . Knoche currently lives in New York City.

Awards

In 1993 and 1994, Knoche won the Jazz Podium magazine's jazz prize in the composition and performance categories . In 1998 he was in the Down Beat Competition in the category Ensemble Best Student Award.
