Christoph Bezemek

Christoph Bezemek (born May 20, 1981 in Vienna ) is an Austrian law scholar and university professor . Bezemek has been working as a professor for public law at the Institute for Public Law and Political Science at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz since October 2016 . Since October 2019, he is also Dean of the Law Faculty .

Christoph Bezemek grew up in his hometown of Vienna, where he began his academic career in 2000 at the University of Vienna, beginning his studies in law and philosophy . He graduated in law in March 2004 with the graduation of Magister Juris (Mag. Iur.) From what directly doctoral studies, also at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna , joined. Since October 2004, Christoph Bezemek has worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Austrian and European Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business at the chair of university professor Michael Holoubek . In May 2006, Bezemek first accepted an external teaching position as a visiting lecturer at the Polish University of Economics in Katowice ; in May 2010 he was visiting lecturer at the Croatian University of Zagreb . From April 2010 he also took on teaching duties as a visiting professor at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City . In July 2010, Christoph Bezemek became a lecturer at the International Max Planck Research School ; in October 2010 he was appointed lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at the University of Vienna.

In 2011, the Vienna University of Economics and Business appointed Bezemek as an assistant professor as his home university . As a result, he devoted himself to his habilitation , which he obtained in July 2013 with a habilitation thesis on the subject of "Freedom of expression: structural issues of the subject of protection in the legal comparison between the First Amendment to the US Constitution and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights ". For this, the Vienna University of Economics and Business awarded him the license to teach ( venia docendi ) for the subjects of public law, legal theory and comparative law. At the same time he became Associate Professor at the WU and a deputy chair as well as visiting professor at the University of Graz. His teaching activities at WU included in particular responsibility for the further development and improvement of the e-learning offer. The commitment to new, digital teaching methods was rewarded in 2016 with a nomination for the State Prize for Excellent Teaching (Ars Docendi). In July 2015 he was visiting professor at the Italian University of Pisa .

In October 2016, Christoph Bezemek was finally appointed as the successor to the university professor Franz Merli to a chair for public law at the University of Graz and thus a full university professor. In October 2019, Bezemek was appointed dean of the law faculty of the University of Graz and is thus entrusted with the management of the faculty as the leading university body.
