Christoph Burgmer

Christoph Burgmer (* 1962 in Leverkusen ) is a German journalist and author.

Life

Burgmer studied literary studies, Iranian studies, Islamic studies, literary communication and media practice in Freiburg i.Br., Berlin, Essen, Paris, Cairo and Tehran. He first worked as a German teacher for asylum seekers in Berlin. He then worked at the Goethe Institute in Alexandria, Egypt. Since 1990 he has been working as a journalist, book reviewer and book author. He worked as a translator for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) under the Taliban . In the meantime freelance university lecturer at the SRH Hochschule Heidelberg. His journalistic work focuses on literature and politics from the Arab world and India as well as current socio-political issues. In 2000 he received the Development Policy Media Prize for his journalistic work .
