Christoph Magirius

Christoph Magirius (born February 20, 1937 in Meerane ) is an Evangelical Lutheran pastor and former superintendent .

After graduating from high school, Magirius studied theology at the Martin Luther University in Halle from 1955 to 1960 . From 1960 he went through the vicariate in Pillnitz and Dresden-Neustadt . From 1962 to 1972 he worked as a pastor in three village parishes near Leipzig (including Rückmarsdorf ) before becoming a student pastor in Leipzig in 1972 . From 1979 to 1990 he was superintendent in Karl-Marx-Stadt and from 1990 to 1999 pastor of the St.-Andreas-Kirchgemeinde Chemnitz-Gablenz .

During the time of transition in the GDR in 1989/1990 he was one of the organizers of the " round table " in Karl-Marx-Stadt, which enabled dialogue between the civil rights movement and the representatives of the state.

The city of Chemnitz made Magirius an honorary citizen on October 3, 1990 .
