Christoph Ulrich Schminck-Gustavus (born August 20, 1942 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German legal historian and professor of legal history at the University of Bremen .

biography

Christoph Schminck-Gustavus studied and did his doctorate in Frankfurt am Main with Adalbert Erler and Bernhard Diestelkamp with the thesis Crimen laesae maiestatis. The political criminal law of Sicily according to the Assises of Ariano (1140) and the Constitutions of Melfi (1231) . In 1973 he was appointed to the newly founded University of Bremen. In his teaching there, he is mainly concerned with training beginners in the field of methodology and legal history. His main research interests are in the areas of fascism , World War II , occupation and resistance . He spent several years doing research in Italy and Greece, focusing on the war crimes committed by German mountain troops during the occupation of Greece in Epirus and Kefalonia .

He is also chairman of the “Xenos. Association for the Promotion of Foreign Students in Need. "

In 1984 he was awarded the Culture and Peace Prize of the Villa Ichon in Bremen .
