The Donat Verlag & Antiquariat is in Bremen -based book publisher . The publishing house, founded in 1987, emerged from Edition Temmen from the Donat & Temmen publishing house, which existed from 1984 to 1987 .

The historian and author Helmut Donat (* 1947) founded the publishing house Donat & Temmen in 1984 together with Horst Temmen , then a research assistant at the Research Center for Eastern Europe at the University of Bremen . The focus of the publishing house was German pacifism , contemporary history as well as the dissident scene and its development in Eastern Europe . In 1987 Temmen left the university, the two publishing partners separated and dissolved their joint publishing house. As a result, Donat and Temmen each founded their own publishing house .

Donat continued the dispute with the genocide of the Armenians (1915–1917) initiated since the beginning of his publishing activities in the Donat Verlag, which he managed alone . Another focus of the publishing house are publications on the causes and consequences of National Socialism . By spring 2007, Donat Verlag had published more than 300 titles, including books , essays and series of works on contemporary history, peace policy , historical, educational , religious and psychological topics, as well as biographies , memories, Bremen , catalogs for art exhibitions , volumes of poetry , children's books , artist monographs , Novels and short stories .

Donat Verlag published works or texts by the following authors, among others: Iso Baumer , Lucille Eichengreen , Gerd Fesser , Karl Fruchtmann , Ewald Hanstein , Shuntaro Hida , Karl-Heinz Janßen , Horst Kalthoff , Ekkehart Krippendorff , Otmar Leist , Heinz Lemmermann , Johannes Schenk , Christoph U. Schminck-Gustavus , Sigmar Schollak , Renate Schoof , Sonja Sonnenfeld , Arn Strohmeyer and Wolfram Wette . The publisher also issued new editions or reprints of works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as by the authors Alfred Hermann Fried (1864–1921), Hellmut von Gerlach (1866–1935), Auguste Kirchhoff (1867 –1940), Theodor Lessing (1872–1933), Hans Paasche (1881–1920) and Ludwig Quidde (1858–1941).

An antiquarian bookshop is affiliated with the publishing house, which mainly includes non-fiction books on numerous humanities topics as well as fiction and biographies. The antiquarian books are offered in addition to the regular publishing program on the publisher's website on the Internet ; it is sold by mail order .

The publisher is a member of the German Book Trade Association .
