Villa Ichon Culture and Peace Prize
The Villa Ichon Culture and Peace Prize (not to be confused with the Bremen Peace Prize ) has been awarded annually since 1983 by the sponsor of Villa Ichon in Bremen , the association of friends and supporters of Villa Ichon . The award honors a work or activity that "simultaneously represents a clear commitment to peace and is of high cultural importance".
The prize is aimed at cultural workers from Bremen as an individual or cultural group, but has also already been awarded to non- Bremen residents.
History and endowment
The award-giver, the Friends and Patrons Association of Villa Ichon in Bremen e. V. , has been the sponsor of the Villa Ichon in Bremen since 1982, which is now known nationwide as a forum for cultural and peace work . In the listed building in Bremen's Ostertorviertel , Amnesty International , DFG-VK and some other pacifist groups are permanently represented as tenants.
Villa Ichon , threatened with demolition , was preserved by the Bremen building contractor and patron Klaus Hübotter and restored and rebuilt in the early 1980s. Hübotter is the initiator and co-founder of the sponsoring association; he also initiated the Culture and Peace Prize. Luise Scherf is the chairman of the Association of Friends and Patrons of Villa Ichon .
The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros in prize money. The jury consists of the current board of directors.

Remarks
- ↑ The jury subsequently unanimously distanced itself from the award ceremony for the British historian Martin Rooney, who lives in Bremen, and also donated 5,000 euros to UNICEF for the war children in Iraq . The reason for this were statements by Rooney about the emerging Iraq war , which had sparked a heated debate.
