Christoph Schwandt

Christoph Schwandt (born September 2, 1956 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe , † December 24, 2015 in Würzburg ) was a German author and dramaturge .

Schwandt was a dramaturge at the Oldenburg State Theater , the stages of the city of Bonn , the Theater & Philharmonie Essen , during the first three years of the Gerard Mortier era (1992–94) at the Salzburg Festival , and from 2002 to 2009 as chief dramaturge at the Cologne Opera active. Most recently he lived and worked in Aschaffenburg , where he was also politically active and chaired the Aschaffenburg Tenants' Association.

In book form he published biographies of the composers Georges Bizet , Leoš Janáček , Giuseppe Verdi and Carl Maria von Weber as well as numerous texts in anthologies.

Schwandt also translated a number of opera librettos from Italian for the series of rororo opera books and for CD booklets. Together with Katharina Thalbach he wrote the libretto for Torsten Rasch's opera Rotter (2008) based on the play of the same name by Thomas Brasch . For the radio, Schwandt created concert versions of theatrical music, including L'Arlésienne by Alphonse Daudet and Bizet.
