Christoph Udo Werner

Christoph Udo Werner (* 1967 in Linz / Austria ) is a German Iranist .

Life

He studied Islamic studies, modern and recent history, German and Iranian studies in Freiburg im Breisgau , Cairo , Tehran and Bamberg . In 1994 he received his Magister Artium from the University of Bamberg . After completing his doctorate in Iranian Studies in Bamberg in 1999 (summa cum laude), he was a research assistant there from 1997 to 2002 at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg. From 2002 to 2007 he was junior professor for Islamic studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . From 2007 to 2019 he taught as a professor for Iranian Studies at the Philipps University of Marburg . Since 2019 he has held the professorship for Iranian Studies at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg . He is President of the Societas Iranologica Europaea (2019-2023).
