Christoph Wilhelm Siemsen (born September 19, 1793 , † January 27, 1859 ) was a German councilor , librarian and library secretary.

Life

Christoph Wilhelm Siemsen was born on September 19, 1793 at the time of the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg during the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover . In the first year of the Kingdom of Hanover , he was on November 3, 1814 as a lodge brother in the Johannis - Masonic Lodge to black bear in the East of Hannover added. He worked temporarily as a music teacher .

From 1830 to 1859 Siemsen worked at the Royal Public Library in Hanover . During this period he headed the library of the royal seat on an interim basis from 1842 to 1851.

According to the memories of August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben , the extremely short-sighted Siemsen was very knowledgeable, especially in the bibliography, and regularly expanded his important library with inexpensive books from the subject of scholarly and book history.

In 1856 the entire library or parts of it was handed over to the predecessor institution of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library - Lower Saxony State Library .

From 1855 to 1859 Siemsen was a deputy master from the chair of his box.
