Christoph Winkler

Christoph Winkler (* 1967 in Torgau ) is a German choreographer . Since 1998 he has worked on numerous dance pieces as a freelance artist in Berlin.

Life

Winkler grew up in the GDR . As a teenager, he was a multiple Spartakiade winner in weightlifting and judo . He completed his training at the State Ballet School in Berlin. This was followed by appearances as a dancer in MTV video productions and performances in Berlin techno clubs . Christoph Winkler then studied choreography at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . In 1998 he started working as a freelance choreographer. He also runs an independent record label for electronic music.

In 2014, Winkler was awarded the German Theater Prize Der Faust in the category “Best Choreography” for the play The True Face - Dance is not enough at Ballhaus Ost . In 2020 he received a Tabori Prize .
