The Tabori Prize is the highest award in Germany for the fine performing arts . It has been awarded annually by the Performing Arts Fund to outstanding professional independent artists and ensembles since May 2010 . An expert jury selects the winners from all groups and artists who have been selected and promoted by the Performing Arts Fund over the past five years.

history

The Performing Arts Fund was founded in Bonn in 1985 . Since 1987 he has been promoting outstanding professional independent projects in all branches of the performing arts nationwide. The Tabori Prize was awarded for the first time in 2010. On the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 2010, the fund - which at that time received its donation of 1 million euros from the German Federal Cultural Foundation - initiated the George Tabori Prize, which was first held in May 2010 at George Tabori's last place of work , in Berlin Ensemble , was awarded.

In addition to the two main prize and sponsorship prize categories that had been common up until then, the jury also awarded an undoped honorary prize to celebrate Tabori's 100th birthday in the Haus der Berliner Festspiele . The company Sasha Waltz & Guests was honored with him .

Since 2019, in addition to the Tabori Prize endowed with € 20,000, two Tabori awards each endowed with € 10,000 have been awarded. There are no more nominees, only winners.

Since the first edition of the Tabori Prize, the award ceremony has taken place at various Berlin venues, such as the Berliner Ensemble , the Radialsystem V , the Maxim-Gorki-Theater , the Sophiensaele , the Berliner Festspiele , the Hebbel-Theater , the Heimathafen Neukölln . In 2019, the award was presented for the third time in a row in HAU1 at HAU Hebbel am Ufer.
