Christoph von Redern

Christoph II von Redern , (Czech Kryštof z Redernů , Polish Krzysztof z Redernu ; * 1591 ; † 1641 or 1642 in Poland ) was a Bohemian nobleman from the Redern family .

biography

The son of Melchior von Redern and Katharina, b. Schlick inherited the dominions Friedland with Reichenberg and Seidenberg as the only male descendant after the death of his father on September 20, 1600 . For the minor, his mother initially carried out the administration and Reichenberg became the seat of rule. After the castle burned down in 1615, the mansion was back in Friedland.

The Protestant went into the service of Frederick I and fought as a dragoon officer in the battle of the White Mountain . On November 11, 1620, he returned to Friedland Castle and granted privileges to the cloth makers' guild. A little later, Redern granted his cousin Joachim Andreas von Schlick , who fled Bautzen before his arrest as the leader of the rebels , refuge at Frýdlant Castle . There Schlick was arrested on March 18, 1621 by troops from the Electorate of Saxony under the defector Wolf Friedrich von Lüttichau and brought to Dresden.

Redern was ostracized and his property was confiscated. On the day of Schlick's execution on June 21, 1621, the lordships of Friedland and Reichenberg were pledged to Albrecht von Wallenstein . Redern left Bohemia and went to Silesia and Poland .

In 1640 he returned to Friedland with Swedish troops, but was unable to recapture his property. In 1641 or 1642 he died impoverished in Poland.
