Christopher Dedrick

Christopher Dedrick (born September 12, 1947 in Delevan , New York , † August 6, 2010 in Toronto , Canada ) was an American musician and composer .

biography

Christopher Dedrick was born into a musical family. His father was a trombonist and arranger and his mother a music teacher. His uncle was the trumpeter and composer Rusty Dedrick . As a child he sang with his brother Bruce and sister Ellen. They later formed their own band with The Free Design . They received their first recording contract with Enoch Lights record label Project 3 in 1966 and released six soft pop albums between 1967 and 1971. A seventh album followed in 1972 with the record company Ambrotype . With Be Free , Dedrick wrote, composed and produced his first solo album in 1972, which was only released in 2000.

From 1972 Dedrick lived in Toronto and began to work as a composer. He wrote the music for Canadian television films such as Escape to Freedom and Witness on the Flight . He was nominated for the Canadian Gemini Award a total of 12 times , including three awards. In 2004 he received a Genie Award for his music for The Saddest Music in the World .

Dedrick died on August 6, 2010 at the age of 62 of complications from his cancer .
