Christopher Williams (born March 15, 1972 in Mandeville , Manchester) is a Jamaican sprinter whose special course is the 200-meter run .

Athletic career

Williams took part in three Olympic Games ( 2000 , 2004 , 2008 ), where he made it to the semi-finals on his special route.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he won the bronze medal with the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay behind the USA and Nigeria. In August 2008, the originally victorious US relay team was subsequently disqualified for a doping offense by its runner Antonio Pettigrew . The first place is currently listed as vacant, subject to a corresponding decision by the IOC , the Jamaican relay could be awarded silver.

Williams celebrated his greatest success as a single starter at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , Canada , when he won the silver medal behind Kostas Kenteris in 20.20 seconds . At the same event, Williams came with the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Brandon Simpson , Gregory Haughton and Danny McFarlane in 2: 58.39 minutes on the bronze rank.

Further successes as a single starter include winning the silver medal at the Pan American Games in 2002 and third place at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , Australia in 2006, both in the 200-meter run.

In 2009 Williams tested positive for amphetamines and banned the IAAF for two years.

At a height of 1.78 m, Williams' competition weight is 73 kg.
