The Christ Church is a Protestant church in the Kleinwittenberg district of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt . The community is part of the parish of Wittenberg in Propst Sprengel Halle-Wittenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The hall church was built in 1907 and 1908 based on a design by Friedrich Beisner and inaugurated on November 8, 1908. It shapes the appearance of the former Wittenberg suburb of Kleinwittenberg. The monumental building was created in a historicizing style. Decorative elements are designed in neo-Gothic shapes. The square steeple is on the southwest corner of the building. The entrance portal is on the west side. The choir is just closing. In the neo-renaissance style, gables are arranged along the nave, but also along the eastern facade of the choir and on all sides of the tower .

The interior of the church has galleries all around . The interior of the church was painted by Berlin’s August Oetken , while the Wittenberg construction company E. Bethke was responsible for the execution. The organ was made by Furtwängler & Hammer from Hanover . The organ front is particularly beautifully designed . The baptismal font in the form of a chalice also dates from the construction period.

As an older piece of equipment, a late Gothic crucifix from the end of the 15th century should be mentioned. It was originally located in the Delitzsch town church . A bronze bell in the church was built in 1477. Georg Wolgast the elder is believed to be the bell founder . It was bought by the Bitterfeld parish. Two more bells from 1700 and 1894 respectively had to be delivered during the First World War and were melted down, for which steel bells were purchased from the bell foundry Schilling & Lattermann from Apolda .
