The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church is a parish church in the Upper Palatinate town of Windischeschenbach . The parish and the church are currently part of the Evangelical Lutheran deanery in Weiden .

history

The history of the Protestants in the Upper Palatinate begins with the announced on June 22, 1542 Religion mandate Pfalzgraf Ottheinrich , with whom he Upper Palatinate on the principle of cuius regio for Lutheran explained. Before the Upper Palatinate became Catholic again in the Counter Reformation initiated by Maximilian I in 1623 , the region had undergone multiple religious changes to Protestantism and Calvinism . After the Counter Reformation, there were no longer any Protestants in Windischeschenbach.

That changed in the 19th century: In the course of industrialization and the establishment of a glass factory and a cardboard factory in 1873, Protestant families from Silesia and Braunschweig came there. With the establishment of the porcelain factory in 1913, additional specialists came to Windischeschenbach from Protestant Upper Franconia . In 1898 a prayer room was set up in the glass factory for the small community .

In 1923 the 25th anniversary of the prayer hall was celebrated and the desire for a church of its own for the parish, which had grown to around 200 believers, came up across from Pastor Distler von Thumsenreuth . The foundation stone for the church was laid on May 29, 1929. The newly built church was consecrated on May 29, 1930. This was made possible by the active help of local factory owner families and the neighboring communities of Thumsenreuth, Krummennaab , Wildenreuth and Erbendorf . Oberkirchenrat Karl Prieser from Bayreuth consecrated the church, the festive service was held by Pastor Zahn von Thumsenreuth. After the Second World War , Windischeschenbach got Wilhelm Greiser, its first clergyman, but still belonged to the Thumsenreuth / Kirchennaaab church community. In 1954 the parish was elevated to a vicariate and in 1968 a parish. She also looks after the Wöllershof district hospital .
