Chronus is a Swedish metal band from Helsingborg .

history

The band was formed in 2012. The first line-up included singer and guitarist Sebastian “The Baron” Axelsson, the second guitarist Svante Furevi, bassist Frederik Søndergaard and drummer Martin Sjölund. The EP Lost at Sea was released via Suicide Records in 2014 . Bassist Frederik Søndergaard left shortly afterwards and was only replaced by Oliver Delander two years later. Drummer Martin Sjölund died in 2015. Jonatan Östling was his successor.

On January 17, 2017, the band released their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Richard Larsson ( The Night Flight Orchestra ). The album was initially released on its own. On October 31, 2017, Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson released the album in through his own record label Ellefson Music Productions . In the summer of 2018 the band played a tour through Scandinavia in support of Soilwork and performed at the Sabaton Open Air.

In 2019 drummer Jonatan Östling left again and was replaced by Adam Kapusta. The second studio album Idols was released on April 24, 2020 and was also produced by Richard Larsson.

style

According to singer Sebastian "The Baron" Axelsson, the band was started by a group of musicians who all had an enthusiasm for the band Metallica . His band has been described in the media as "dark foo fighters " or "tough ABBA ".

Jens Peters from the German magazine Rock Hard compared the vocals with Ozzy Osbourne and the guitar sound with Mastodon . The alternative influences that can be heard are similar to Sixx: AM , while associations with Ghost are awakened in the outfits . Chronus would consistently arrange their songs imaginatively and clearly have a talent for songwriting. For Matthias Weckmann from the German magazine Metal Hammer , Chronus' music is based on classic rock from the 1970s and would be in direct proximity to bands like Ghost or The Night Flight Orchestra. The listener is lured with varied stylistic devices.
