Chrysostom Johannes Wieser (born February 4, 1664 in Hainfeld , Lower Austria ; † February 26, 1747 in Lilienfeld , Lower Austria) was abbot of Lilienfeld Abbey .

Life

He came from a Lederer family and entered Lilienfeld Abbey in 1688 . He was ordained a priest on June 9, 1691 and took over the post of chaplain in Traisen . He held various positions in pastoral care and in penal administration and was elected abbot on June 25, 1716. From 1727 to 1746 he was Vicar General of the Cistercian Order for Austria and Styria , and from 1728 to 1738 also for Hungary. In 1732 he became an imperial councilor and member of the prelate class .

He was involved in the Baroque transformation of the collegiate church and was the editor of statutes for the monasteries of the Austrian Cistercian Congregation (1731). The convention grew considerably during its tenure; the first novice he dressed was the famous historian and numismatist Chrysostomus Hanthaler . Wieser is considered the most famous baroque abbot of the Lilienfeld Abbey.

In his estate there are many sermons (about the Office of Mary , to the novices, from the necrology , about the Rule of Benedict ) and records for the monastery necrology .
