Charles Richard Allen (born September 7, 1939 in Cle Elum , Washington - † December 15, 2016 ) was an American American football player. He played 13 seasons as a linebacker , 9 of them with the San Diego Chargers in the American Football League (AFL).

Career

Chuck Allen was selected in the 1961 NFL Draft in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Rams and in the AFL Draft in the 28th round by the San Diego Chargers . Since he was convinced that linebackers would have more options in the AFL, he decided on the Chargers. In his rookie season , he caught 5 interceptions and carried one back to a touchdown before breaking his ankle in game nine. Two years later he won the AFL Championship Game with the Chargers . In 1970 he was exchanged from the Chargers to the Pittsburgh Steelers , where he played two seasons before spending another season with the Philadelphia Eagles .

After retiring from his playing career, he worked as an assistant coach for the Washington Huskies for two years before becoming director of scouting for the Seattle Seahawks in 1975 . On March 15, 1983, he was appointed Assistant General Manager by the Seahawks .

Allen was married with five grown children and eleven grandchildren.
