The Chumik is a 6754 m high mountain in the main ridge of the Saltoro Mountains , a part of the Karakorum Mountains .
location
The Chumik is located in the disputed border region between the Pakistani territory of Gilgit-Baltistan (the former northern areas ) and the Indian Kashmir region in the southwest of the Siachen Glacier . The so-called " Line of Control " runs a few hundred meters east of the mountain. The mountain falls below 6000 m in all directions . The northeast flank is drained towards the Siachen glacier. The Chumik Glacier flows in a westerly direction along the WNW flank . A glacier flows south from the southern flank of the Chumik and feeds the Gyong River, a tributary of the Dansam .
The Chumik is about 10 km south of the K12 , which is the dominance reference point.
Ascent history
There are no documented ascents of Chumik. In July 1978 a Japanese expedition attempted the ascent, but gave up because of rockfalls that were too dangerous. Their ascent route led from the Chumik glacier up to the saddle below the northeast ridge.
