Cindy Lee Van Dover (born May 16, 1954 in Eatontown , New Jersey) is an American marine biologist specializing in the deep sea .

Life

In 1977 Cindy Lee Van Dover graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in environmental science . In 1982 she took part in her first deep-sea expedition, during which the East Pacific Ridge was examined. In 1985 she received a Masters in Ecology from the University of California, Los Angeles . She then did further research on oceanography and received her Ph.D. and then became a member of the scientists of the deep-sea submarine Alvin (DSV-2) and qualified as the helmsman of the boat in 1990. Currently (2019) she is Professor of Biological Oceanography at Duke University and Director of the associated marine laboratory in Beaufort (North Carolina) .

plant

As a deep sea researcher, Cindy Lee Van Dover has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles. As part of her research, she visited almost all known smokers and deep-sea mountains in the Atlantic and Pacific with the deep-sea submarine. Current (2019) research focus is on biodiversity and biogeography of invertebrates in chemolithotrophic ecosystems.
