Cioppino is a dish from the Italian- American cuisine. Cioppino has its origins in San Francisco , although culinary influences can also come from the cuisine around Genoa .

Word origin

Cioppino is derived from the word ciuppin , which means a classic soup in Liguria . The Cacciucco from Tuscany is etymologically related to Cioppino.

Characteristic

Cioppino is made from seafood , the composition of which can change depending on the catch. Typically scallops , prawns , crabs and squids are used. These are served in a sauce made from tomatoes and white wine . Cioppino is usually eaten with a piece of bread that is dipped.
