Cirriphyllum piliferum (German brush hair leaf moss ) is a deciduous moss fromthe Brachytheciaceae family . It forms pale green, partly shimmering lawns.
Occurrence
The moss often grows mainly in damp forests or on meadows up to the alpine level. Only in northern Germany is it a little rarer. It occurs all over the northern hemisphere .
Identifying features
The stems are irregularly branched and can be up to 10 cm long. The leaves are oval in shape, slightly serrated and suddenly pointed to a hair shape. The leaf vein goes up to about the middle of the leaf. The seta (the capsule stem) is warty and rough.
