Citizen Animal - A Small Family's Quest for Animal Rights (English for. National animal - the small search of a family by animal rights ) is a documentary by Oliver Kyr from the year 2018 .

action

In the film, the director Oliver Kyr and his partner Tatjana Kühr, who works as a raw food maker, investigate the question of whether animals have civil rights. The original plan was to make a short film about the Spanish community of Trigueros del Valle ; The reason was the fact that it had given the dogs and cats living on site their own civil rights. This gave rise to the motivation to investigate the question of whether this undertaking was generally feasible. Both of them, who have been living in a mobile home since 2015, traveled around 12,000 kilometers across Europe with their underage daughter in 2017 to interview various animal rights activists and vegans.

publication

The film had its German premiere at the 11th Lichter Filmfest on April 6, 2018. The film was shown there under the German title Citizen Animal - A small family travels to the animals in the program.

On April 24, 2018, the film was shown in the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin . The official theatrical release was two days later, but again with an English title. The original plan was to release the film in July 2017.

financing

One of the official sponsors was the musician Mona Mur , who contributed the music to the film. Other supporters of the film include Sea Shepherd , OceanCare , the Jane Goodall Institute , Animals' Angels , the Foundation for Animals in Law and the Animal Welfare Party .

reception

The film service wrote that the film was an "emphatic, but cinematic simple plea for veganism, which allows numerous experts to have their say, but does not add any new facets to the familiar aspects of the topic".
