The City-Point Kassel is a shopping center, on 27 February 2002 at the Königsplatz in Kassel was opened. It was built on the site of the old main post office, which was completely destroyed in the Second World War .

history

A Neckermann department store was built on the site of the former main post office in 1963, and Karstadt later moved into it. After the lease expired, the building was replaced by the completely new City-Point.

architecture

City-Point Kassel is operated by ECE Projektmanagement , which was also the owner of the new building. Together with the architect Jochem Jourdan, a building was planned that is supposed to pay homage to the documenta .

The City-Point has a sales area of ​​20,000 m² on which there are 60 shops. On average, 33,507 visitors come to the shopping center every day, whose catchment area is estimated by the operator at 841,461 inhabitants. 650 employees work in the center, whose branch mix is ​​led by textiles and hardware. Restructuring has been taking place since the end of June 2015, with ongoing operations: A 1200 m² catering area is to be built in the City-Point, the cost of which is expected to amount to 4.5 million euros.

Infrastructure

Due to its location in the center of Kassel, the shopping center can be reached by numerous tram and bus lines operated by the KVG . Since the Königsplatz is part of the pedestrian zone, there are many other shops and large department stores around the City-Point.
