Ciudad Valles is a city with approx. 140,000 inhabitants and the capital of the municipality of the same name (municipio) with approx. 185,000 inhabitants in the east of the Mexican state of San Luis Postosí . Ciudad Valles is the seat of a diocese of the Catholic Church and a branch of the University of San Luis Potosí.
Location and climate
The city of Ciudad Valles is located in the coastal region of La Huasteca at an average height of approx. 85 m . To the city of San Luis Potosí , the capital of the state, it is approx. 255 km (driving distance) in a westerly direction; the city of Tampico , on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico , is approx. 140 km to the east. The climate is tropical and humid to hot; Rain (approx. 1200 mm / year) falls mainly in the summer months.

The economic importance of Ciudad Valles over the past centuries was due to its geographical location between the silver mining city of San Luis Potosí and the port city of Tampico.
