After a season with the Edmonton Oilers , who were still playing in the World Hockey Association at that time , and the Dallas Black Hawks from the CHL (1978/79), Alexander ended his career in Europe, where he spent two years for VfL Bad Nauheim in the Hockey league and a year for the Zürcher SC in the National League B played.

In 1984 the Maple Leafs brought him  back to their organization as coach of their AHL farm team - the St. Catharines Saints .
