Clara Rühle (born April 14, 1885 in Stuttgart ; died 1947 in Hayingen ) was a German painter , an early protagonist of abstraction and a companion of modernity .

Life

Rühle was a student of Bernhard Pankok , Johannes Joseph Vincenz Cissarz and Adolf Hölzel . She studied in the women's class at the Stuttgart Academy of Arts with Robert Poetzelberger and Heinrich Altherr and was chairwoman of the Württemberg painters' association for twelve years . When she was elected for the chair on May 16, 1934, she was, like her deputy Elise Daimler (1875–1956), a member of the NSDAP . Both often spent time painting in the association's summer house in Anhausen. In addition to portraits, she made decorative accessories such as embroidered pillows based on her own design patterns.
