The Clarkson Cup 2009 , also Scotiabank National Canadian Women's Championship , was the first staging of the competition of the same name between the four representatives of the Canadian Women's Hockey League and the Western Women's Hockey League . The tournament was from 19 to 21 March 2009 at the K Rock Center in Kingston in the province of Ontario held.

The Stars de Montréal from the CWHL defeated the Minnesota Whitecaps from the WWHL 3-1 in the final , making them the first club team to ever win the Clarkson Cup, which was founded in 2005. The trophy was handed over personally by the founder, Adrienne Clarkson , to the captain of the stars, Lisa-Marie Breton .

mode

The tournament began with two placement games, in which the first placed in the CWHL and WWHL seasons as well as the second placed in the two leagues met. On the basis of the seeding list established there - the first placed played for places 1 and 2, while the second placed played for places 3 and 4 - the two semi-finals and the final followed.

In the semi-finals, the victorious first place, thus first on the seeding list, met the defeated second place. Likewise, the defeated first placed player played against the victorious runner-up. The two semi-final winners finally determined the winner of the Clarkson Cup in the final .
