Caitlin Kinder Cahow (born May 20, 1985 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is a former American ice hockey player .

Career

Cahow attended the Foote School in New Haven. Her mother was a lecturer at Yale University and Caitlin Cahow tried her hand at figure skating at the university's ice rink . After her first training, however, she saw children playing ice hockey and discovered this sport for herself.

As a student at Harvard University , she played for four years for the university's women's team in ECAC hockey , a league of the NCAA . She was one of the top defenders in the league several times.

In 2008 she finished her studies at Harvard with a Bachelor in Social / Biological anthropology .

International

In 2005, Cahow made his debut for the United States women's national ice hockey team at the Four Nations Cup . With the women's selection , she took part in the Winter Olympics in Turin a year later and won the bronze medal there. At the women's ice hockey world championship in Harbin in China in 2008, the women's ice hockey world championship in 2009 in Hämeenlinna in Finland and the 2011 women's ice hockey world championship in Winterthur and Zurich in Switzerland, she and her team were world champions.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she won the silver medal.

In April 2013, she ended her national team career.

WWHL and CWHL

After completing her studies, she first played for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the Western Women's Hockey League , at that time the only professional women's ice hockey league in North America, and won the 2009 WWHL championship with the Whitecaps. At the Whitecaps she played with her idol Manon Rhéaume , among others .

Between October 2010 and 2013 she played for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League and in 2013 won the Clarkson Cup with the Blades. In parallel, she studied at Boston College Law School . In 2013 she successfully completed her studies and at the same time her ice hockey career.

Cahow, who is an openly lesbian, was accepted into the delegation for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi by Barack Obama in December 2013 .
