Claude-Max Lochu studied at the Art Academy in Besançon (Jean Ricardon workshop), where he graduated in 1975. His works were shown for the first time in 1976 in Rabat and Tangier , Morocco . He moved to Paris in 1979, where he exhibited at the Salon de Montrouge in 1981 and 1982. During a trip to Japan in 1982 he studied the Sumi-e technique with ink together with the artist Shiko Itoh.
As for the poet Basho , this journey, his later journey, became sources of inspiration. This is how the "Houses in Heaven" came into being; Cities like Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Amsterdam, New York, London, Los Angeles and Berlin became subjects of his work. Still lifes and interiors are among the popular themes of Claude-Max Lochu, but so are the landscapes of southern France. The representation of reality remains of secondary importance. In all the works, poetry remains the guide.
Exhibitions
Lochus' works have been exhibited in various museums such as the Musée de Dole (1985) or the Musée Faure in Aix-les-Bains (2000 and 2013).
In 2000 he exhibited the painting “Aix les Bains from the Boulevard des Anglais” for the first time in the Faure Museum. This painting, a bird's eye view of the city, now hangs in the main entrance of the museum. In 2012, a second retrospective of his works was shown in the Neues Museum Faure. His “Portrait of Auguste Rodin ” was ordered by the museum for the collection.
Since 2001 his exhibits can also be seen in the exhibitions of the Accademia libera natura e cultura in Querceto (Tuscany, Italy). In 2006 he took part in the event “Peace and Light” to promote world peace and interreligious dialogue . By participating in this event, he supported the construction of the "Temple of Peace" in Normandy.
In 2013 an exhibition took place at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Gaillac (Tarn). From July to September 2013, 26 of his oil paintings, gouaches and drawings were exhibited in the Peugeot Museum (Sochaux, Doubs). The Impressionist Area Tourist Office, interested in the impulse of Impressionism along the Seine and in modern and contemporary art in this area around Paris, organized a tour of its studio in Carrières-sur-Seine in January 2014.
