Claudia Klein (born September 24, 1971 ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

Career

Klein began her career at the age of six at the Siegburger Turnverein , where she played in various boys' teams. In 1983 she moved to FC Sankt Augustin before joining Grün-Weiß Brauweiler in 1990 . With Brauweiler, she sensationally won the DFB Cup against champions TSV Siegen as an outsider in 1991 and made it to the Bundesliga . The second cup victory followed again in 1994 against TSV Siegen. Instead, the winners were able to win the championship final against Brauweiler in the same year. On July 31, 1994, she made her debut in a game against the USA in the German national team. In 1995 she became the European women's soccer champion for the first time in Kaiserslautern and two months later she was vice world champion in Sweden.

The most successful years of her career were the years 1997 and 2002. On June 8, 1997 she was in the final of the German championship for the third time with Grün-Weiß Brauweiler. The opponent in Duisburg was FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen. In the penalty shootout, she scored the decisive goal for Brauweiler's first and so far only championship. A week later, she won the DFB Cup for the third time after beating FC Eintracht Rheine 3-1 in the final . Here, too, she initiated the cup victory with her 1-0 win. Another four weeks later she won the European women's football championship in Norway for the second time with the national team. The final against Italy was their sixth and last international match. In 1998 she moved to Sportfreunde Siegen , where she became the first player-coach in the Bundesliga. At the same time, she trained the youth team from the Mittelrhein Football Association, with whom she won the Mittelrhein Cup in 1999. In 2000 she reached the cup final again, but had to admit defeat with her team to 1. FFC Frankfurt 1: 2. After Siegen had not received a license for the 2001/02 season , she moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt. With the Hessians she was once again champion, cup winner and the first Champions League winner, before ending her career in 2002 due to injury.
