Claudia Lehmann (born February 25, 1975 in Langenhagen near Hanover ) is a German filmmaker, video artist, performer, producer, author and doctorate in physics.

Life

After studying physics at the University of Hamburg , Claudia Lehmann did her doctorate in theoretical elementary particle physics at DESY in Hamburg under Gerhard Mack . She then studied film directing at the Hamburg Media School under Hark Bohm . In addition to her film projects, she has been working regularly at the theater as a video artist since 2001. As an artist, she staged performances and installations in various contexts. In 2014 she founded the Institute for Experimental Affairs together with the artist, musician and composer Konrad Hempel .

Work (work)

Her graduation film from the film school Memoryeffekt (2007) and her documentary film Hans im Glück (2009) premiered in the series “Perspektive Deutsches Kino” at the Berlinale . In 2012 her feature film Schilf with Mark Waschke and Stipe Erceg was released . This film, produced by Manuela Stehr for X-Films , is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Juli Zeh . She directed and co-wrote the script. She also worked as a producer for the film projects Hans im Glück and Not more than an Agreement (2013).

For many years she has been developing performances and video concepts at various theaters. She has worked for many years with the director Nicolas Stemann and with the musicians Thomas Kürstner and Sebastian Vogel . Among other things, she developed the video concepts for "The Robbers" at the Thalia Theater Hamburg , "The Holy Johanna of the Slaughterhouses" at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , "The Contracts of the Merchant", in which she also staged the video live, "Faust 1 & 2" (Production of the year 2012) at the Salzburg Festival and at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, "Rein Gold" at the Berlin State Opera or "Wut" by Elfriede Jelinek at the Münchner Kammerspiele . She has been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen several times. "The Merchant's Contracts" and "Faust 1 & 2" were shown at the Festival d'Avignon .

Her installations and her films are influenced by her academic past. For example, the performance on quantum mechanics "Sharp or Unsharp" was created for the Fleetstreet Theater Hamburg . In her work for the Institute for Experimental Affairs, she and Konrad Hermann Hempel develop cross-border formats that build a bridge between science and art.

Others

Claudia Lehmann teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Weißensee School of Art . In 2013 she was a member of the selection committee of the DOK Festival Leipzig. She also plays and sings in the Berlin band "Hands up - Excitement!"
