Thomas Kürstner

Thomas Kürstner (* 1972 in Weimar ) is a German musician and performer who mostly works in the theater.

Life

Kürstner studied musicology , composition and German in Halle , and later in Dresden , Vienna and Berlin .

He has been working as a musician and composer on German-speaking theaters for several years, including in Frankfurt am Main , Berlin, Hanover , Hamburg , Zurich , Vienna and Munich . From 2001 to 2003 he was musical director at the Frankfurt Theater am Turm with his music colleague Sebastian Vogel . In 2003 they both moved to the Burgtheater in Vienna as composers and resident musicians , where the stage music for the world premieres of Elfriede Jelinek's pieces Das Werk and Babel and Gert Jonke's Die verunkene Cathedral were created .

Together with the director Nicolas Stemann , they developed the art format Hazard Bar , the principle of which is to present events that consist of musical and literary material that is only created on the day of the performance and the duration of which exceeds the rehearsal time if possible.

Together with Sebastian Vogel, he composed the stage music for Elfriede Jelinek's The Contracts of the Merchant , Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's drama Nathan the Wise and for Faust I / Faust II by Johann for the Thalia Theater , the Salzburg Festival and the Schauspiel Köln Wolfgang Goethe .
