Claudia Lux

Claudia Lux (born March 24, 1950 in Gladbeck ) is a German librarian .

Life

After studying social sciences , she received her PhD in Sinology from the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1985 . Then she completed an education for the higher library service . She worked in the East Asia department of the Berlin State Library and was involved in several research projects. Before assuming the function of General Director of the Central and Regional Library Berlin Foundation (ZLB) in 1997, she was director of the Berlin Senate Library .

She was a member of the board of the German Library Association from 1995 to 2004 and is a board member of the IFLA National Committee.

In June 2005 she was elected IFLA President for the period 2007-2009. She was the successor of Alex Byrne and after Gustav Hofmann and Hans-Peter Geh the third German to hold this office.

Claudia Lux has been an honorary professor at the Institute for Library and Information Science at the Humboldt University of Berlin since 2006 .

On April 1, 2012 Claudia Lux took a leave of absence as head of the ZLB until she retired and moved to Qatar . Lux is the “Project Director” of the National Library of Qatar , based in Doha .
