Cleistocactus micropetalus is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet micropetalus means 'with small petals'.

description

Cleistocactus micropetalus grows shrubby with slightly spreading to spreading, gray-green shoots branching at the base and reaches heights of 1.5 to 3 meters with diameters of 6 to 8 centimeters. There are 16 to 18 corrugated ribs . The areoles on it are close together. The golden yellow thorns are straight. The central spine, sometimes several, is strong, needle-like and 2 to 4 centimeters long. The 5 to 6 radial spines are 5 to 15 millimeters long.

The radially symmetrical, green flowers often appear in large numbers near the shoot tips and open at night. They are up to 2.2 inches long. The green bracts are only 3 millimeters long. The spherical, light yellow to reddish yellow fruits tear irregularly from the tip and have a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Cleistocactus micropetalus is widespread in the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca in the Avilés . It was first described in 1980 by Friedrich Ritter .
