Cleistocactus roezlii is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Czech botanist Benedict Roezl .

description

Cleistocactus roezlii grows shrubby to tree-shaped with several, more or less upright, columnar, gray-green shoots and reaches heights of 1 to 3 meters with a diameter of 4.5 to 6 centimeters. There are 7 to 14 notched ribs . The areoles on it are not close together. Areoles capable of flowering are covered with numerous bristles. The gray, protruding or downwardly directed central spine is 2 to 6 inches long. The 9 to 14 (occasionally more) radial spines are light brown and up to 1 centimeter long.

The red, slightly crooked flowers are slightly curved at the top. They are 6 to 7 centimeters long and have a diameter of up to 2 centimeters. The spherical, yellow or reddish orange fruits reach a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Cleistocactus roezlii is common in the Peruvian region of Lambayeque . It was first described as Cereus roezlii in 1897 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Curt Backeberg placed them in the genus Cleistocactus in 1936 .
