Clemens Konermann

Clemens Konermann (born November 30, 1874 in Ibbenbüren , † January 2, 1971 in Walstedde ) was a German Roman Catholic pastor . The long-time dean of the Werne deanery was an honorary citizen of the Walstedde community at that time.

Life

Clemens Konermann was born as the son of the painter Heinrich Konermann. He spent his school and university years in his hometown Ibbenbüren and Münster , where he on June 1, 1901, the Great Cathedral by Bishop Hermann Jakob Dingelstad for ordained priests was. He then worked as a chaplain for twelve years in Burgsteinfurt , then from 1913 to 1924 at the Überwasserkirche in Münster. From there, Bishop Johannes Poggenburg appointed him pastor of the parish of St. Lambertus Walstedde in 1924. In 1932 Clemens Konermann was appointed dean of the Werne dean's office. He held this office for 22 years, even during the difficult time of National Socialism for the Church . In 1964 he retired, but remained active well into old age, so that he worked as a pastor in Walstedde for around 46 years.

Provost Clemens Konermann died on January 2, 1971 at the age of 96 in Walstedde. At that time he was the oldest priest in the diocese of Münster and the only clergyman still alive from the year of consecration in 1901. His grave is in the Walstedde cemetery.

Honors

When the dean's offices of the Münster diocese were redistributed in 1954, dean Clemens Konermann was made an honorary dean because of his advanced age. In recognition of his service as a pastor and dean awarded him Bishop Michael Keller also in 1956 the honorary title of Provost ( Provost hc ).

On the occasion of his diamond jubilee as a priest, Propst Konermann was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class by the Federal President in 1961. In the same year, the Walstedde community honored its popular pastor by granting them honorary citizenship . In 2000, the city council of Drensteinfurt decided to dedicate Propst-Konermann-Weg to the clergyman in the new Walstedder building area Röwenkamp .
