Click & Boat is a French start-up and an online platform for boat rental . The company, founded in 2013 by Edouard Gorioux and Jérémy Bismuth , offers over 22,000 boats (as of 2018) from private individuals and commercial rental companies in over 20 countries. Click & Boat has more than 150,000 registered members. The head office is on a houseboat in Paris .

history

In September 2013, Jérémy Bismuth and Edouard Gorioux founded Click & Boat as a cooperative platform for boat rentals by private boat owners in France. In December of the same year the website was published. According to its own statements, the company reached breakeven point in 2015 and has been profitable ever since .

In 2016, the Paris-based fund Olma Fund helped the company to invest 1 million euros. With the help of the investment, Click & Boat was able to acquire its largest European competitor Sailsharing . In 2016, international branches were established with the market entry in Italy , Spain , the United Kingdom and Germany . Expansion into the US market followed a year later . From November 2017 boats from professional charter companies can also be rented.

The world record holder in single-handed sailing, François Gabart , has been an investor and patron of the company since the beginning of 2018 . The investor Omla Funds invested a further 4 million euros in the second round of investors in May 2018 in order to consolidate and advance the market position and internationalization .

Concept and functionality

The company is assigned to the sharing economy . The idea of founding the company came up when the operators noticed that boats are only used for an average of 10 days a year and at the same time cause high maintenance costs. Similar to the Airbnb concept , private boat owners and professional boat rental companies can rent out their boat through the platform. Sailboats , motorboats , catamarans , houseboats and superyachts can be found on the platform . With some boats, a captain can be booked as an option . All boats are fully insured.

The online platform offers a search, contact and rating function.

Click & Boat in Germany

The company has been operating on the German market since 2016. With a growth of 240% in 2017, Germany is the company's third-strongest market and after 1.5 years already generates 15% of total sales.

In Germany, the original model of renting out boats between private individuals is not applicable. Boat owners need a trade license to offer their boat for rent. For this reason, the platform was opened to commercial boat rental companies in November 2017. An investment of 4 million euros in June 2018 enabled Click & Boat to expand its offering on the German market. The focus here is on expanding the range of offers on inland waters as well as the North and Baltic Seas and the rental of houseboats.
