Christian Gottlieb Gumpelzhaimer (born July 22, 1766 in Regensburg ; † February 17, 1841 there ) was a German lawyer and historian .

Life

Gumpelzhaimer came from a Regensburg patrician family and studied law in Göttingen . He practiced at the Reichshofrat in Vienna and in 1790 became the Mecklenburg legation secretary at the Perpetual Reichstag in Regensburg . In 1793 he became a councilor and represented the mandates of 14 imperial estates at the Rastatt Congress . In 1805 he became a Legation Councilor. In 1813 he ended his eventful diplomatic career and devoted himself to archaeological studies. At the suggestion of King Ludwig I, he founded the “ Historical Association of the Rain District ” with friends , which he also headed as a board member until his death on February 17, 1841. Most of Gumpelzhaimer's essays were published in the journal of the association, which was renamed “Historischer Verein für Oberpfalz und Regensburg” in 1838, including a. his main work under the title: "Regensburg's history, legends and curiosities from the oldest to the most recent times", 1830–38, in 4 volumes.
