Production and Background

Matterhorn

The film was shot in Switzerland as early as 1946 . Climbing the Matterhorn premiered on May 30, 1947.

In 1946, Irving shot the mountaineering drama High Conquest with Richard Angst , in which an American mountaineer (Warren Douglas) is dominated by his fear of the Matterhorn because his father was killed on an ascent. Although he refuses to become part of a rescue team at first, special circumstances make him change his mind and join the promotion.

According to a report in the New York Times , additional material for a short documentary was created during the making of the film High Conquest , which was then published under the title Climbing the Matterhorn in 1947.

Awards

Irving won at the Oscars in 1948 the Oscar in the category "Best Short Film" (2 rolls of film).
