The Clube de Desportos da Costa do Sol , often just called Costa do Sol for short , is a sports club from Maputo , the capital of Mozambique . The club was founded in 1955 based on the Lisbon SL Benfica under the name Sport Lourenço Marques e Benfica and received its current name in 1978.
Because of the yellow jerseys since the name change, the club and its members are also often called Canarinhos , canaries. Costa do Sol won its first Mozambican championship in 1979. By 2007, seven other championships and ten successes in cup competition followed.
In addition to football, the club, which is based in the northern district of Polana Caniço, also has departments for roller hockey , handball, athletics, swimming, volleyball and basketball. The club also won numerous titles in these sports.
