The Cobrabald River is a river in the north of the Australian state of New South Wales , in the tabular country of New England .

The source is in the highlands on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range , around 3.2 kilometers southeast of Branga Swamp and 50 kilometers south of Walcha .

The river flows first north and then northwest. After 52.8 kilometers it flows into the Macdonald River about 6.4 kilometers northwest of Cobrabald Mountain at Aberbaldie .

The Cobrabald River used to be called Cobrabald Creek and then also (partly) St. Leonards Creek .

The river is located in the Walcha Local Government Area and Vernon County for its entire length .

The land on the Cobrabald River is good grazing land. The river is considered to be one of the best fishing waters for trout . There is also a gold panning area in a sanctuary off Niangala Road and along the Cobrabald River.
