Cody Arlyn Töpper (born January 10, 1983 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) is a former German -born American basketball player . Born and raised as Cody Arlyn Toppert , he received German citizenship in 2009 due to a German grandfather, whose original surname Töpper he adopted.
Career
Cody Toppert began his career with Cornell Big Red at his university. For the 2009/2010 season he moved to MEG Göttingen. Before that he played in Australia, Romania and the USA, among others. After he could not gain a foothold in Göttingen as he had hoped, he switched to the BC Weissenhorn in the ProB for the second half of the 2009/2010 season . There he did not receive a new contract for the 2010/2011 season. He then signed a contract with the Plymouth Raiders in England. He then played in various clubs in Italy and Spain until he ended his career as a professional basketball player in 2012.
Toppert is currently working for several companies that offer various training options for basketball players.
Private
Cody Töpper has a brother named Chad Topper , who also plays basketball professionally. In English they both have the same surname ( Toppert ), but when they were naturalized they were given different surnames in their German passports. This was corrected in October 2014 so that Chad Topper is officially listed under the name Chad Toppert in Germany from this point on.
